Jack Acme's World of the Future

Years ago I was waiting in some science department office. I picked up a journal, flipped it open, and read about an old man who ate more than a dozen hard boiled eggs a day. This was noteworthy because his cholesterol was so low. His only recorded comment in the article: "I don't know why I keep eating these eggs; they've ruined my life."

Attended a performance of Beethoven's Missa Solemnis tonight: world famous hall, orchestra, and chorus; no doubt the soloists were well known, given the occasion. So, with a full size orchestra, 125 member chorus, and a big old pipe organ the sound was sometimes all encompassing. It filled the hall an then some. I could not help but register how unusual this experience was for myself (and I presume would be for the vast majority of people). That is to say, I don't get out all that much and rarely to hear a symphony orchestra and gigantic chorus. This is an experience which cannot now and I pray may never be replicated or simulated by an iPhone or future equivalent.
